This entire record is a mess. One could argue that their aloofness is a little charming. Like as if it’s kinda cool to hear a band that doesn’t actually give a fuck about sounding good. At all. What I was sent is a burned CD-R of cover songs recorded on what they described as a “modded Furby.” It’s either that or someone just hit record on their cell phone and sent it in. The CD package itself is an old Doors album with their band’s logo slapped over the cover, with no track listing whatsoever. When I popped this into a CD player, I found that there are twenty-seven tracks, and somewhere around track number eight is when it just turns into a mix CD. Meaning that the first eight tracks are Monster Duck Rally covering songs like “Second Skin” from The Gits, and one of the worst versions of “Fortunate Son” I’ve ever heard. And the rest of the record is just songs that they like from the original bands just tacked on, cus why not? I don’t think there was a single part of this process that was taken seriously. Not even for a second. –Kayla Greet (Self-released)
