MIKE ADAMS AT HIS HONEST WEIGHT: Oscillate Wisely: CD/CS

Jan 21, 2022

This is the tenth anniversary of Mike Adams’ debut, Oscillate Wisely. The original version didn’t receive a very wide release and this one has a re-recording of the album from 2021 (in addition to the original album). The re-recording is live and in-studio. So they’re similar but different. The music on these ten songs is blessed-out harmonies à la the Beach Boys (although obviously not as good), combined with the distorted, dreamy guitar of Starflyer 59, and topped with some melancholy from The Smiths. Given that Mike and I grew up in the same part of Indiana, it’s not surprising to me that I can feel a sense of driving amongst cornfields in the warm summer air. This is an album with great pop hooks, sweet melodies, and a tinge of sadness. While I’m not sure why the album needed the 2021 re-recording, this is otherwise a release that is worth getting out to a wider audience. –Kurt Morris (Joyful Noise)
