Formed in Rockville, Md. in 2014, Meatbot is a very 1980s, simplistic band in the vein of DOA. It’s their debut full-length and I’m into it. Left-leaning lyrics are of the standard fare, with current events addressed on tracks like “Herd Immunity.” Melodic without entering pop territory, this is straight-ahead mid-tempo punk that sounds like it’s plucked from 1987 or so. The vocals are aggressive, with a unique mood that’s hard to put a label on. Less snotty than sarcastic, the singer’s peculiar tone helps Meatbot stand out. –Art Ettinger (Self-released,
