Mad Mulligans features Johnny, Albee, and Wynn of The Krays alongside Carlos Truent and Rich O’Brien from Darkside NYC. Depending on what tracks on Action Men you listen to, they almost sound like different bands. The difference is sharpest on the opening track “Action Man,” with a kind of ’80s DC hardcore punk sound, and the following track “Gentrified,” which has more of a late ’80s or ’90s NYHC vibe. I dug every track on the album, including the brief instrumental interlude “Battle of Brooklyn,” but it was interesting to see how varied these tracks could sound while still being the same band. –Paul J.
