LOW LIFE: From Squats to Lots: The Agony and XTC of Low Life: LP

“Breathtaking” is not a word I toss about flippantly, but it’s more than appropriate here. Lotta different sounds going on throughout on this band’s third album—they start off at the intersection of prime-era Sisters Of Mercy meets early Christian Death, veer off suddenly into primal punk sludge, careen over to shoegazeland, then back to square one—and they embed it all with sly hooks and a sea of delay-drenched guitars and reverb that makes it fit seamlessly while sounding so goddamned epic. Played it for my wife who liked it so much she insisted on buying herself a digital copy of the album in support of their efforts. –Jimmy Alvarado (Goner)
