We were absolutely crazy for the Patti Smith Group. Killing us all with their first album, Horses, in 1975, they kept us wanting more of this new great sound. With the release of Easter, their third album in 1978, Patti Smith had become untouchable by other artists. Not only was this great rock—of any kind—it was also art.
It was in the parking lot of Licorice Pizza Records on the Sunset Strip where she performed a short set, just a taste of what was to come at her concert later at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. She wanted us to be near her.
We are still absolutely crazy for her.
