Liar’s Club Post #147 By Patrick Houdek, 60 pgs.

This full-color, glossy, and hardcover bound photobook documents a scene centered around a Chicago area bar, Liar’s Club, that has been hosting shows for over two decades. Originally put together as a one-off birthday present for the bar, this self-published book turned into something more along the way, resulting in this documented book of that bar, the people, the bands, and the feeling of being there. The photography is intimate with hundreds of photos of bands and patrons, including shots of both well-known touring acts as well as local Chicago bands and other events that happened at Liar’s Club. The photography seems almost personal in the way that this would likely appeal specifically to those who frequent the spot, and going back to thinking that this was originally planned as a gift for the bar keeper, that personal level of the photos makes sense to me. These photos tell a story and the book that they’re compiled in will make a great keepsake for all who passed through those doors. Mark Twistworthy(
