Lenguas Largas: three (or technically four, I guess) tunes of hallucinatory garage/lysergic oddness. At times there’s an almost cinematic quality to all the rhythmic chanting, singing and, yes, rapping coupled with each tune’s simple-yet-densely-packed musical foundation. These cats continue to work hard rubbing at punk’s furthest edges in interesting ways. Your Pest Band: A Japanese band with a style more direct than record-mates but pulling from many of the same wells—’60s pop, a bit of psychedelia, and a bit more overt “punk” mooshed into the dough. Four tunes from ’em that work well with what’s on the other side to make a consistent whole. –Jimmy Alvarado (Midtown Island, midtownislandrecords.bandcamp.com)
