Launcher is a relatively new punk band from Los Angeles that aims to mix punk and rock’n’roll into a genre their bandcamp refers to as “punk’n’roll.” I figured this project would sound something like garage punk, and I was wrong. This cassette mixes extra fast rock’n’roll riffs with run-of-the-mill punk vocals. Tracks like “Mixed Signals” and “Jackpot” err more on the side of punk, while the remaining tracks sound more like sped-up generic rock anthems. This release isn’t great, but it isn’t terrible. Those interested in punk that dabbles more with an early rock sound may enjoy this thing, but generally it felt like a collection of listenable (yet mostly uninteresting) filler. –Anna Farr (Self, launcher.bandcamp.com)
