British émigrés who hooked up and formed a band in Australia (see also: Easybeats, AC/DC, Bee Gees, Ray Davies’ sister, et cetera.) circa 1978, this album compiles the band’s elusive 1980 album plus the requisite singles tracks into a single big ol’ nineteen-song album that kinda sounds like one of those Powerpearls records except it’s all by the same band. If you are an aficionado of shoestring-budget late ’70s/early ’80s punk with enough of an ear cocked towards pop and mod to make it catchy and listenable, I would be surprised if you did not consider this album worthy of purchase. If you are not an aficionado of shoestring-budget late ’70s/early ’80s punk with enough of an ear cocked towards pop and mod to make it catchy and listenable, you probably like really gross records and should maybe skip to the next review, which may be grosser and therefore more to your liking. This won’t change your life or anything, but it still sounds good on a summer night with the windows open, and ain’t that what it’s all about anyway? If you disagree with this assessment, I suggest you buy this record and thereby get the Last Words. BEST SONG: “Animal World.” BEST SONG TITLE: “Semi-Detached Love.” FANTASTIC AMAZING TRIVIA FACT: Original Last Words drummer Jeffrey Wegener drummed for the Saints in 1974 and 1975. –Rev.
