KNOWSO: Rare Auld Trip/ Psychological Garden: LP

Jul 20, 2021

Cleveland’s Knowso are back with another batch of uneasy, off-kilter weirdness. While maybe not as blatantly pissed off as Drunken Sailor labelmates Droids Blood, there is definitely a choppy socio-political anger in play here. Musically, the feeling is claustrophobic but somehow engaging—like being unable to look away as you drive past a car wreck. The stutter stops and starts and the mechanical indifference of the vocal delivery are like a gut punch that you didn’t know was coming but knew you deserved. This is not the party record of the year by any means, but the world needs difficult music too. I love this, and if you’re into that weird Alternative Tentacles vibe, you might too. –Ty Stranglehold (Drunken Sailor,
