JØTNARR: Self-titled: LP

Feb 06, 2020

Decent black metal sounds that cross over into more conventional metalcore moments, which means Jøtnarr sometimes come off like hardcore kids dabbling in a slightly different aesthetic. If you prefer your black metal to be single-minded darkness with almost no connection to reality, look elsewhere. That said, the riffs are here, the emotional extremes are here, the vague sense of something pagan is here. Someone with white eyes is eating a heart on the cover of the album, though it does, at first glance, sort of look like a goth eating a sandwich. –Matt Werts (Super Fi, superfirecords.co.uk / Rip Roaring Shit Storm, riproaringshitstorm.bigcartel.com / React With Protest, reactwithprotest.org / IFB, ifbrecords.com / FHED, fhed.bigcartel.com)
