JOHNNY REV: In the Company of Wolves: 7”

Sep 16, 2021

This early ’00s Chicago band has returned after a decade’s absence, or at least that’s what their discography seems to indicate. The main question is, why? The music is on the emo side of the subgenre of punk made famous by bands like Strung Out and No Use For A Name and then aped by a thousand terrible clones, including Johnny Rev. Despite clearly investing a lot of effort in writing and recording (with Mr. Precision of 88 Fingers Louie no less), there’s nothing here that I’d ever want to listen to again when I can throw on Twisted By Design or Making Friends at literally any moment. –Chad Williams (johnnyrev1.bandcamp.com)
