JOHN SALVAGE: Coyote Hasten: LP

Jul 20, 2021

It’s hard to tell if John Salvage is from the desert or the prairie or some back alley. There’s a little bit of Paul Westerberg, a lo-fi (maybe mid-fi?) sound, plenty of space. He could be driving for miles or he could be stuck somewhere or he could be both at the same time. That combination of restlessness and ennui isn’t new, but he often makes it sound (especially on a track like “Honey Bee,” with its loping, fried-guitar coda) fresh and real. –Matt Werts (Outer Limits Lounge,
