JIMMY VAPID: Killmatic: LP

Jul 20, 2021

The Vapids have been a bastion of Canadian Ramones worship for almost thirty years. I’ll admit that I haven’t heard them in years, and I was curious to hear what this solo album from band leader Jimmy Vapid was all about. Right off the bat, there isn’t nearly as much up-front Ramones-ness as I expected. This album is more of a heavy riff-rock album. I imagine this is what Danko Jones would sound like fronting Apocalypse Dudes-era Turbonegro. I really dig this. The production is huge! There was a time when rock records like this were a dime a dozen and started to sound stale. Now isn’t that time, and this is a really fun listen. Go get your guitar fix! –Ty Stranglehold (Self-released, [email protected])
