JEWELED SNAKES: Self-titled: LP

May 31, 2017

Jeweled Snakes make a sexy, alien kind of electronic music that might reasonably be characterized by suffixes like “-step” or “-beat.” It reminds me at first of Slava Tsukerman’s electro-baroque soundtrack to the cult-famous movie Liquid Sky. But instead of fugue structured instrumentals, distorted vocals coax the listener deeper into the strange, spacey soundscapes of this LP. The moods range from urgent to inviting, but the whole record carries sounds from a haunted future on a planet we have not quite yet apprehended. It’s a good record. –Lyle (Resipiscent, resipiscent.com)
