JASONS, THE: Jarvis House: 7”

Mar 15, 2022

The Jasons are a gimmick band geared directly at me. Each band member is named after a different incarnation of Jason Voorhees of the Friday the 13th film franchise. Their songs are almost exclusively about issues surrounding Jason, and the music is the catchiest pop punk this side of Parasites. They’re fantastic live, and they’re gaining fans robustly. They’ve been announced as the opener for a major Queers/Dwarves tour in June and July of 2022, so don’t get to the show late if you’re going. This EP is some of their best material to date, and the puerile lyrics are in full form, particularly on the song “Tommy’s Mom,” which details a sexual fantasy that even the most jaded Friday the 13th fan never dreamed of. The Tommy Jarvis character hasn’t appeared on screen since 1986, but his legacy lives on via this clever EP. –Art Ettinger (Mom’s Basement, momsbasementrecords.bigcartel.com)
