JACK OBLIVIAN AND THE SHEIKS: The Lone Ranger of Love: LP

Though not quite as endearing and offbeat as Lost Weekend (Oblivian’s record with the Dream Killers), Lone Ranger is still fine and groovy and legit. The production is full and clear, there seems to be more of an emphasis on tradition, and maybe rock’n’roll tradition is the appeal, and the point. It’s hard to argue with the fun of “Hey Killer” or “Fast Friends.” I like when Oblivian and Co. go off-road—the murky, sometimes atonal party of “Blind Love,” the wide open country of “Runnin from the Law.” And I like that you can count on them: no matter what they do, they do it right. –Matt Werts (Black & Wyatt, blackandwyattrecords.com)
