INJECT THE LIGHT / MR. EDS: Split Xmas Cassingle: CS

I was well into adulthood when I found out that most places in the U.S. apparently don’t celebrate St. Nick’s Day. As I have come to understand it, the observation of St. Nick’s Day is limited to areas of the country with heavy German ancestry. I had no clue. Anyway, for those of you not in the know, St. Nick’s Day is kind of a pre-Christmas—a mini-Christmas if you will. The night of December 5, you hang up your stocking—old school—and on the morning of the 6th, you awake to find that St. Nick has filled said stocking with candy, and maybe a few trivial gift items like a Pez dispenser or whatever. But it’s kinda bullshit because you have to go to school that day. Anyway, this self-avowed “Split Xmas Cassingle”—one song each side—got me to thinking that the cassette single is really the perfect format for a St. Nick’s present. It’s small enough that it can fit conveniently into a stocking, and it’s trivial enough that mom and dad—er, that is to say, St. Nick—won’t feel like they’re spoiling the kids by giving them anything particularly cool or costly that close to Christmas. As such, I feel that these two bands have really missed the mark by targeting this product to the Christmas market, when they really should have been taking aim at the largely untapped St. Nick’s field. It’s a fucking potential gold mine I tell you! BEST SONG: Inject the Light, “Merry Xmas Grandma.” BEST SONG TITLE: The Mr. Eds, “It’s Xmas (I’m Drunk and Screamin’).” FANTASTIC AMAZING TRIVIA FACT: My cousin Nicole was so named because she was born on St. Nick’s Day. –Rev.
