IAN O’NEIL FEATURING DEER TICK / NOVA ONE: Split: 7”

May 24, 2022

The third record in Tor Johnson Records’ 20th anniversary subscription series features Ian O’Neil of Deer Tick doing a solo song supported by his band on side A, and a new track from Nova One on side B. O’Neil’s “Life Insurance” is the kind of roots rock I’d expect from him and his collaborators in Deer Tick. It’s a well done track which fans of O’Neil and Deer Tick will dig, but not the sort of thing I’m into. Nova One started as a side project for singer Roz Raskin but has turned into their main project. The ethereal dreaminess of the music complements Raskin’s softly lilting voice perfectly. Based on this single alone, I will not be surprised when Raskin breaks into the mainstream, either with Nova One or another project. –Paul J. Comeau (Tor Johnson, [email protected])
