Most punk/psych amalgams are basically trainwrecks where a boxcar of punk rock musical ineptitude collides with a tanker full of meandering psychedelic frippery and no one survives. These Indianapolis stalwarts actually straighten that shit right the fuck on out by hitching a caboose of wacky psychedelic overkill to a steam engine fueled by wholesale punk rock bashery, and the results might not be your grandfather’s Chattanooga Choo-Choo but at least the train runs on time and nobody barfs. I can’t describe this album much better than “unexpectedly kinda great,” but when’s the last time you heard an album-ending psychedelic opus and thought “hey, this sorta sounds like the live version of ‘Thinking of the USA’ from Eater’s Get Your Yo-Yo’s Out EP?” Ha! As I suspected. I rest my case! BEST SONG: “Not Going Away.” BEST SONG TITLE: “Backwards Reason.” FANTASTIC AMAZING TRIVIA FACT: This spine contains the smallest spine catalog number I have ever seen. –Rev.
