Man, this record falls square in Voodoo Rhythm’s field of play. Honshu Wolves have a sound like rockabilly run through the sensibilities of a torch singer in a dim, smoky lounge. They describe themselves on their Bandcamp page as a “Delta Blues Desert Gospel Space Punk Sensation,” which might be much closer to the mark than my thinking of them as a mashup of P.J. Harvey and Muddy Waters. The whole record has this sort of ethereal beauty and elegance thinly veiling a dark, lurking sonic menace. I’m one hundred percent sold. –The Lord Kveldulfr (Voodoo Rhythm)
