HEAVY METAL: IV:Counter Electrode Iron Mono: 2 x LP

This record sounds like if one of the Chipmunks went thru puberty and his voice changed (relative to baseline Chipmunk) and he sang for a laptop beat punk band like the Sleaford Mods while the Reverse Flash played backwards guitar and Negativland got everybody high on helium and Sour Gummi Worms and they made a gatefold album cover that is completely pink on the outside and you have to fold the cover inside out to see any graphics at all in which case the spine only reads “KILLING YOURSELF TO OWN YOUR PARENTS AND THE TORIES” which I would have assumed was the name of the band or the album or something but it isn’t. To call this album “weird” is to damn it with faint praise and you should buy it immediately and I’m not even kidding. Squa Tront! Spa fon! BEST SONG: “Sonnenschein Ubermensch”—aka “Sunshine Superman,” the Donovan song. Have you ever noticed that there are no bad punk covers of Donovan songs? Think about it. Kinda weird, right? Also, since you’re copping ideas from Hüsker Dü, why stop at a Donovan cover? Why not throw down a thirteen-minute “Reoccurring Dreams”-style jammy wig-out at the end? I lament this lost opportunity for additional lunacy! BEST SONG TITLE: “Killing Yourself to Own Your Parents and the Tories.” FANTASTIC AMAZING TRIVIA FACT: This album comes in a sleeve with a “4” sticker on it. That’s not that interesting in and of itself, but you might need to know it anyway since the record has no other identifying markings other than general pinkness.–Rev. Nørb (Total Punk)
