HAMMERED HULLS: Self-titled: 7”

Oh hell yes. I’m only half-joking when I say I like the Faith side better, and I’m deadly serious when I say the Warmers are the single most underrated Dischord band (and don’t get me started on Ignition if you value your ear, which I’ll happily chew off). This is all to say that a new Alec MacKaye project carries heavy expectations. Well, enter Mary Timony, whose restraint on the Ex Hex records is cast off as she throws late-’80s riffs around like it ain’t no thing (and the rhythm section are no slouches, either). The only complaint is that this brief debut is a tease: only three songs. With any luck, though, the brevity portends a forthcoming long player (and a tour to support it, and a triumphant Cape Cod appearance. Hey, a homer can dream, right?). –Michael T. Fournier (Dischord)
