GUERRILLA TEENS: “Halfway to Maybe” b/w “The Other End of the Leash”: 7”

Jul 21, 2023

Whither goes Scott “Deluxe” Drake, there goest I (of course, I also think Flamin’ Hot Mountain Dew is a viable flavor, so consider the source). Thither also goest guitarist Jeff Fieldhouse, who’s been in bands with him since the Suicide Kings in the be-haired ’80s (including the Humpers and Lovesores, of whom you may of heard). Scott must owe him money or something. Dispensing with the expository preamble, it will surprise no one to hear that there are no surprises here; this sounds exactly like you’d think it would sound if you’ve ever listened to the Humpers or the Lovesores at any point in the last three decades. These guys kinda have one pitch. It’s just a really good pitch. And, while I don’t know that these two songs really stand out from the rest of the Drake/Fieldhouse repertoire—they’re decent but not mind-blowing—at our advanced ages, mere continuance of existence is legitimate high-five material. “RNFR forever will stand.” Party on. BEST SONG & SONG TITLE: “Halfway to Maybe.” FANTASTIC AMAZING TRIVIA FACT: This kind of looks like the first Modern Lovers album. –Rev. Nørb (Guerrilla Teens)
