GOVERNESS: Let Me Be Your Governess: CD

Sep 23, 2016

Governess plays sleazy, grimy, glam punk. Aptly hailing from my oftentimes shady hometown of Buffalo, NY—one of the U.S. cities where bars are open till 4 AM—it’s no shocker that there’s a major seediness to this album. Borrowing heavily from New York Dolls without ignoring the decades in between, this album is an auspicious start if ever there were one. Hopefully a label picks it up for vinyl release, but until then, there are physical copies available on CD. There’s a degree of ease and effortlessness here that many similar bands try to emulate without success. These filthy guys can be my governesses any day. –Art Ettinger (Self-released, governess-666.bandcamp.com)
