GOOD FRIEND: The Erin Rose EP: 7”

Years back I got this band’s full length debut to review for this very same publication. I really enjoyed the rawness and unrelenting power behind the music, lyrics, and vocals that this trio from Ireland kicks out. Then I got to see them live at Fest 17 and 18 (remember shows?). These guys rip and I wish they were huge. It’s really nice to get three new tracks from a great band, especially in times when recording and practicing feels dangerous in various parts of the world. The songs on this EP are mid-tempo—as far as punk goes—and quite melodic. One of the things I really love about them is Adam Carroll’s gravelly voice which is constantly being pushed near to the point of breaking. Throw in that Irish lilt and it’s gorgeous in a slightly damaged way. The only thing that made my fucking eye twitch about this EP is that the A Side is 45 RPMs and the B Side is 33 1/3 RPMs. Sit close to your turntable when playing this one, cus if you’re anything like me, you’re gonna forget to change the speed. And play it loud. Belt out the songs. Try to match Carroll’s energy if you can. –Kayla Greet (Red Scare / Gunner)
