Cute, fast-paced travel diary comics that don’t bother with much insight about the experience and simply outline what happened: I ate a burrito. I saw the Descendents. Travel sucks sometimes. What it lacks in depth it makes up for in energy, with unique layouts and fun composition. Comics like this can easily fall into a talking heads sort of affair, but the author—Ricky Vigil—clearly spent time thinking about how to put these images onto the page. For example, the author draws a day at Meow Wolf as a collage that feels chaotic and, although I’ve never been there, matches the vibe I get from the place from following it on social media. There’s also a panel in the comic about the Descendents that shows the band playing behind a field of raised cell phone camera screens that is so on-point. Special appearance by Razorcake’s own Todd Taylor, who hosted the author on the author’s Los Angeles trip. Todd is shown standing in front of his house next to his cactus and looking pretty much exactly like I’d expect a cartoon of Todd to look like. –Emma Alice Johnson (rickyvigil.com)
