GIRLS IN SYNTHESIS: The Rest Is Distraction: LP/CD

Nov 15, 2022

London’s post-punk trio, Girls In Synthesis, returns in fine form with an album which finds the band in a more aurally assaulting mood than before. Through pulsating rhythms, scratchy guitars, and shouted/spoken vocals verging on Crass-like at times, this is in the same league as fellow Brits Bad Breeding in terms of creating a dissonant soundtrack to life today. I can never shake off the sense that this would have fitted in through the Thatcher years. If music could have a color, this would be black and white. The images it conjures up for me are of 1970s and 1980s Britain, definitely bad times. The sad thing is that it’s not out of place in 2022. This is a powerful accompaniment to where we find ourselves now and, as such, it’s an excellent album. –Rich Cocksedge (Own It, girlsinsynthesis.bandcamp)
