I don’t have the same nostalgia for the past as the author of General Speech does. There’s a point where I find archive diving to be diminishing returns and the demos of obscure bands in scenes I find interesting to be less than fun to listen to. In five short years, it will have been fifty years since the Ramones recorded their self-titled record. Here I am in 2021, playing bass in my punk band in my bandmate’s garage, and looking back on history. You can do this; you could always do this. And General Speech is a celebration of those who figured that out long before I did. Good interviews, beautiful presentation, a labor of love. There is a history to be explored. If you have an endless appetite for what was there before, empires crumbling into dust, General Speech is on our wavelength. –Gwen Static (PO Box 24842, Lexington, KY, 40524, [email protected])
