GARRISON: The Bend before the Break: LP

Jan 05, 2022

Garrison’s debut EP The Bend before the Break was released by Revelation Records in the late ’90s. The band toured extensively and built an audience, but the label didn’t have any idea how to market them—their mathy, heavy post-rock wasn’t xhardcorex, and it wasn’t emo like labelmates Texas Is The Reason or even Elliott. It’s great to see Iodine release this one, because these songs still pack a wallop—“Serious Heavy Drama” moves along with the urgency of the 1.6 Band but with more melodic sensibility; “Harlow” evokes Drive Like Jehu with its guitar heroism. Garrison remains a tremendous band. Hopefully Iodine re-releases some of their other stuff, too. –Michael T. Fournier (Iodine, iodinerecords.com)
