FLOODWATER ANGEL: Dungeon Crawlers (Guide to the Cool): CS

Nov 20, 2023

Floodwater Angel play a weird mix of hippie jam band music and psychedelia from the ’70s. That’s putting it too simply, though. Tracks like “Because of Winn-Dixie” are gentle acoustic numbers sung with beautiful vocals reminiscent of Shannon Hoon from Blind Melon. On the flip side, “Doom Scroller” is a fuzzy guitar track with annoyingly catchy lyrics (with emphasis on the annoying part). The band is talented, but they’re also all over the place. When they’re on, Floodwater Angel is remarkable and touching. When they’re not, they’re difficult to listen to. If future works have more consistency, I’d love to hear it. –Kurt Morris (Tern And Crow)
