FEAR OF DOLLS: Lullabies for Aborted Children: CD

May 15, 2023

“Children’s music for children who like rusty toys and moldy candy” is how the band describes this genre, which is way less twee that I expected it to be based on that description. It’s definitely got a creepy element, but it’s strangely beautiful. There’s definitely some evil-ish-sounding stuff, like the beginning of “The Night-Time Tea Party,” but it also has a Björk-like quality that makes you lean in a little bit while you’re listening. Overall, I’d say this stuff is pretty experimental but strangely compelling and probably—though not definitely—just probably not for children. –Theresa W. (Self-released)
