FAUS: Apestate: CD

Back when I started moving away from metalcore and hardcore in the early ’00s I recall a number of bands that sounded like what Faus do on Apestate. For some reason these were mainly Christian bands: The Chariot, Norma Jean, and Underoath. Faus are certainly not a Christian band, but their sound is strikingly similar to those aforementioned acts, as well as a good dose of old Dillinger Escape Plan. The six songs on Apestate are technically proficient and intense but not necessarily breaking any new ground. That said, if you miss early ’00s Christian metalcore minus the Christianity, then here you go. –Kurt Morris (Blackhouse, blackhouserecordsinc.com)
