As the title suggests, this is a reissue celebrating the fortieth anniversary of the release of this legendary “skate rock” band’s debut LP. For those not familiar, the Faction’s stock in trade was thrashy, yet catchy as hell, hardcore played lean ‘n’ tight, with lyrics both serious and silly (“Why Save the Whales?” still makes me laugh out loud every time I hear it). Added to this edition is a second LP featuring a soundboard recording of a live performance at the Valencia Tool & Die from 1983, which, like the album itself, is zippy and is remarkably clear considering the tape from which the recording came from has to be nearly forty years old at this point. –Jimmy Alvarado (IM)
