EXOTIC ADRIAN STREET AND THE PILEDRIVERS: Shake, Wrestle, and Roll: CS

Punk rockers’ enthusiasm for wrestling has increased in recent years. I don’t totally share the passion, so it’s hard for me to get totally excited about this album. But I get it a bit. This is a repress of a novelty-type record made by the wrestler Exotic Adrian Street and released in 1986. I say novelty, but it seems he may have been serious about getting into music. The actual music on the album sounds pretty canned, as if you went into a studio and said, “I need rock music for my songs” to a bunch of session players. I have some Mad Magazine novelty records where the music is similar. That said, the music isn’t awful. The title track, “Shake, Wrestle ‘n’ Roll” is a respectable rockabilly tune. Street sings about the ins and outs of wrestling. It’s pretty funny at times. But I think I’m going on too much about it. You know if you’re interested in something like this. –Billups Allen (Burger)
