I’m talkin’ about Eureka California here. No, not the city—the band. And no, they’re not actually from Eureka, Calif.—they’re from Athens, Ga. Okay, now that we’ve got that cleared up, Eureka California is a garage rock duo that is at once talented and forgettable. Don’t get me wrong, Wigwam is technically a good EP in that the band plays their instruments well. The singer’s strained, layered vocals sound kind of like J. Mascis’s distinct yowl, and sometimes the band hits a sort of Bass Drum Of Death-esque heavy groove.
