ECONOMY ISLAND: Self-titled: LP

I was gonna say that I’ve never heard mopey power pop before, but on second thought, that’s basically what Dinosaur Jr. and Weezer were doing in the mid-‘90s. It speaks well for this Austin band that they can work this catchy ‘n’ depressive sound without immediately bringing a bunch of old bands to mind. Nine punchily written, sadly played songs, featuring Razorcake’s own Mark Twistworthy on bass. –Chris Terry (Twistworthy)
