DOWNSTROKES, THE: This Close to Vertigo: LP

Mar 19, 2024

Mastered by Mass Giorgini, this second full-length from The Downstrokes ups the pop factor in their fundamentally garage rock sound. It is well produced and catchy, without that phony postproduction lo-fi filtering that so many garage-type acts seem compelled to utilize. A split release between Allegedly Records and Coffin Curse Records, the vinyl sounds terrific. The cover art and foldout poster-style lyric sheet stand out as much as the contents within, adding to the desirability. Straddling a line between garage rock and pop punk is no easy feat, but The Downstrokes pull it off. Hopefully it doesn’t take too long for their third full-length. –Art Ettinger (Allegedly, allegedlyrecords.com / Coffin Curse, coffincurserecords.com)
