The Dirty Nil is a much-lauded alternative rock band from Hamilton, Ontario. Minimum R&B collects singles and EP tracks originally released between 2011 and 2014, so it’s useful for fans who have come to the band in the wake of their 2016 LP, Dine Alone. The music itself recalls greats of this genre at the intersection of garage, punk, and straight-ahead rock’n’roll, like Titus Andronicus, Diarrhea Planet, and Hüsker Dü. It’s heavy and loud—and the vocals are screamy—but it’s light on its feet, and it gets stuck in your head. Quite simply, the record rocks. –Lyle (Fat Wreck, fatwreck.com)
