DION LUNADON: Systems Edge: LP

Mar 19, 2024

In The Red always had their pulse on fucked-up drug music, but then I realized that was twenty years ago. These days the kids don’t do smack and write songs, maaaaaaan. This New Zealand transplant was in the band The D4 (not “our” D4) from a couple decades back that got big enough doing some swagger rock’n’roll that was hip back then. Straight-up MC5 by way of the Dirtbombs/King Khan rock’n’roll. Big riffs, big sounds. It’s really well crafted, well written, well recorded. Sounds like a geezer in his forties making rock music. Would rather leave the venue with my ears ringing, lip bleeding, and have my head kicked in by a bunch of sixteen-year-olds, but that’s just me (check the Chueko review for reference). –Tim Brooks (In The Red, intheredrecords.com)
