DIALS: Self-titled: 7”

I like every single thing about this band. Vocals are higher pitched but hang back in the cut a bit. They’re not the loudest part of the mix, which I think really helps the music shine as well. Some songs have a guitar tone that reminds me of Sweeping Promises, while others have elements of Neighborhood Brats. The whole record is high energy post-punk that has equal parts aggression and melody. This five piece from Portland has mastered that early emo vocal style of distant shouting as singing, akin to something like Small Brown Bike or Waxwing. There’s a pretty obvious Wipers comparison too, but less poppy. I bet this band puts on a helluva live show. –Kayla Greet (Black Water)
