DEGURUTIENI: Dark Mondo: CD

Anyone who has been paying attention to Voodoo Rhythm Records for the past couple of decades will know that the label specializes in weirdness—often blown-out bluesy skronk or other avant garde but still rockin’ sounds. If you do not know the label, the best description might be weird, post-Tom Waits insanity that comes from blues, exotica, blown-out garage punk, or anything else that might be “weird” to a straight-forward punk fan. This CD from Japanese artist Degurutieni certainly fits the bill, sounding very much like weirdo exotica from a futuristic film noir soundtrack. Interesting to say the least, and if one were looking for something different and unlike much else, Degurutieni will provide your soundtrack. –Mike Frame (Voodoo Rhythm, voodoorhythm.com)
