DEE RANGERS: All You Need Tonight: LP

Nov 27, 2018

Wholesome ’60s-inspired Swedish garage rock. I’m fairly endeared to this genre insomuch as I appreciate the hell out of rock’n’roll. That sweet simplicity of a high-energy toe tapper is always a welcome palate cleanser for moments when I fall too far down the DIY rabbit hole and am in need of a hard reset. Though I gotta say, it’s not a desert island genre for me. I just feel like there has to be a finite amount of songs about men pining over women, right? I don’t mean to be overly critical. These are dancey jams with sweet, crisp vocals and melodies that get the hips a shakin’. Bright, catchy tunes about the kinda gals these dudes wanna be with. Really enjoy the hook on “I’m Going Home.” It’s got a slightly darker vibe. Getting a little X-Ray Spex and The Nerves out of this one, and a lotta unrequited love. I’m being needlessly obtuse about this. Yes, the songs are great and poppy. But dudes, when you write a song called “I Want a Girl Like You,” could ya do me a favor and say why? Bonus points if none of the reasons are physical attraction! –Kayla Greet (Low Impact)
