It’s been thirty-five years since the original lineup of X has written and recorded a new album. I’ve always been a huge X fan (my first tattoo was an “X”), and I was excited, but I really didn’t have high expectations. How can a band match the utter greatness of the first few albums they made way back in the raw, earlier days of the punk scene? How can a band still possess that kind of fresh creativity after thirty-five years? It’s not an easy accomplishment. In fact, it’s a rarity, but X totally pulled it off! They still have the fire in them!

Alphabetland has the same kind of energy and excitement that their first five studio albums have. Each song is a solid banger! This is the kind of album that you listen to all the way through, and you immediately have to listen to it again. The standout songs are “I Gotta Fever,” “Water and Wine,” “Goodbye Year, Goodbye,” and a blazing-hot version of “Delta 88 Nightmare.”  Also, I love how the album ends (you’ll see). It’s gonna be so cool to watch the band play all these brand new songs live (when we’re finally allowed to go see live shows again). I can’t wait (and after playing the same songs over and over again for forty years, I’ll bet they can’t wait either).

Alphabetland is an outstanding album. Click on the link and hear for yourself.
