Thurston Moore by Deb Frazin

Deb Frazin Photo Column—Thurston Moore

This is a photo I snapped of Thurston Moore at Zebulon in 2018. He was on tour with The Thurson Moore Group promoting their stellar album Rock n Roll Consciousness. My pal Jordan Schwartz (“We Got Power”) asked Thurston on the day of the show if he had room on his guest list for me—I lucked out and got into the show at the last minute.

With Debbie Googe on bass (My Blood Valentine), James Sedwards on guitar and Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) on drums, you know it was loud and tight! This was the first time I’d seen Thurston play live since the last Sonic Youth show in 1998, so I was stoked! And the icing on the cake was seeing him play in such a small room.

It was super dark in that room (so dark, that after the third song, Thurston asked for some more lighting). Because it was so dark and intimate, I had to wait until the end of the last song to get a few snaps with my flash. The photo you see above was the final shot of the evening.
