JSBX, Pussy Galore, Boss Hog, The Honeymoon Killers, Heavy Trash, Jon Spencer Hitmakers.... For decades I’ve been obsessed with these bands and the genius behind them all: Jon Spencer.
This photo was shot in 2019 at The Echo in Los Angeles. I got a last-minute ticket and there was no time to get a photo pass, so I snuck my clunky camera into the venue (Nothing was gonna stop me from getting snaps of my hero that night). Spencer was on tour with his latest band, Jon Spencer Hitmakers (featuring Pussy Galore bandmate Bob Bert), and they only played songs from their album (which was just fine with me, ’cause the album rocks hard).
I was up front, and toward the end of the show, Jon was burnin’ it up, drenched in sweat, then suddenly crouched down at the edge of the stage, grabbed the back on my head, and pressed his sweat-soaked forehead onto mine (drenched in Jon Spencer’s sweat—I thought I was gonna fucking die)!
And because I can never get enough, when the show was over I bolted down to The Redwood Bar, and got there just in time to catch a blistering-hot set from The Dogs. That entire night was a barrage of fire!
