Grave Flowers Bongo Band has just released their second album, Strength of Spring, on Castle Face Records. It was produced by Ty Segall and it’s been blowing my mind over the past month.
Frontperson Gabe Flores (Hoover iii, Richard Rose) has produced a beautifully crafted, ’60s-psych-drenched album that conjures up the sounds of bands like Nazz, late Pretty Things, and I hear some Bowie “The Man Who Sold the World” influence on their single “Smile.” It’s wonderfully spacey at times, and the songs melt into one another like butter.
There is no doubt that Strength of Spring will be on my Top 10 favorite albums of 2021 list.
