DAY ROOM: Self-titled: CS

Jan 21, 2022

Day Room were a short-lived “basement-dweller new wave” band from Bloomington and this 2017 set is their only recording. They sound like down-the-middle college rockers with a jones for Faith-era Cure or the slower early Joy Division songs. I’d prefer more post-punk urgency and less indie rock manners, but there is plenty to like here, especially in the fluid guitar leads. Also, the first song’s called “Bomb Shelter” and, in researching this, I learned that Googling “bomb shelter day room” is a recipe for a survivalist rabbit hole disaster. If the feds come a’knockin’, I’ll be sure to have this tape a’rockin’. –Chris Terry (day-room.bandcamp.com)
