CROSS CONTROL: Try and Survive: LP

Nov 20, 2023

I had listened to thirty-nine seconds of this record before I was ready to bet someone one hundred dollars that there are pretty rowdy circle pits at Cross Control shows. It’s just the kind of punch-first hardcore that makes that a safe bet, you know? These folks appear to be from Los Angeles and that checks out to me musically, with what might be my most obvious observation that there is some serious West Coast hardcore influence here. Songs are a little longer than might be expected, which I always find pretty impressive for a band like this since the endurance it takes to make it happen is not to be underestimated. These days, I find it hard to argue with lyrics like “Everything’s fucked anyone” screamed from a guttural but understandable place. –Theresa W. (New Age)
